VICESSE at the 5th ISA Forum of Sociology in Rabat (Morocco), 06.07. – 11.07.2025
Marion Neunkirchner, Victoria Kontrus and Ferdinand Nyberg attended the 5th ISA Forum of Sociology in Rabat, Morocco, held under the theme “Knowing Justice in the Anthropocene” (06.07. – 11.07.2025).
Marion Neunkirchner presented two contributions. The first, titled “AI Development in Austria’s Prisons” and co-authored with Roger von Laufenberg drew on empirical insights from two nationally funded projects (DIGDOK and MAIJA) and focused on the implementation of an AI-supported digital assistant for cell searches. Her second presentation, “Changes in the Austrian Penal System: Impact Controlling Along Formal and Informal Structures,” stemmed from her ongoing dissertation project and examined an impact control tool used in Austrian prisons.
Victoria Kontrus presented her joint work with Roger von Laufenberg titled “Imagining Ageing in AI-Based Technologies for Long-Term Care – What Technology for Whom?”. Blending findings from the AlgoCare and BUILD projects, the presentation analyzed how AI-based technologies for long-term care are framed as “solutions” and how the corresponding “problem” of old age is constructed.
Ferdinand Nyberg presented the contribution “The Role of Heritage in Disaster Resilience in Rural Communities in Portugal and Crete,” co-authored with Norbert Leonhardmair. Drawing on two case studies from the RESILIAGE project, the presentation explored the role of cultural heritage in enhancing community resilience throughout all phases of the disaster management cycle.
